When It Seems as if God is Far Away

Have you ever had a time in your life that the more you prayed, it seemed as if God was nowhere to be found? Have you prayed and prayed and it seemed as if your prayer was not being heard? Have you had the feeling before that God was angry at you? When it seems as if God is far away, trust and believe that He is not, at all. Why? Joshua 1:5 (ESV) declares, “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.” However, just reading the verse is not going to make you believe this. You have to dissect the verse, get the full meaning of it, and believe it. Then trust God and live it!

First of all, God lets us know that we cannot depend on man to be there for us every day of our lives. Man has flaws, but God is flawless. Moses was chosen to lead the Israelites out of Egypt from under the hand of an evil and angry Pharaoh. Every time that Moses approached Pharaoh to let his people go, Pharaoh hardened his heart. Moses could have given up and gone his merry way. How was he able to stand and lead his people? Moses knew that the Lord was the only one who could save the children of Israel. He knew this because he had experiences learning to trust the Lord earlier in his life. Therefore, God gave an example of a leader he chose and said he never left him. So, if God didn’t leave or forsake Moses, he won’t leave or forsake us. Bear in mind that “forsake” means to renounce or entirely turn away from, especially in a time of need.

Consequently, if you are in any of the following situations or others: need medicine and the insurance won’t cover it, have a serious court matter and no funds to hire a capable lawyer, have to terminate an incompetent employee who has two children and one on the way, or given the diagnosis of an incurable disease, God WILL NOT leave or forsake you. He may not show up when you want Him, but He is always on time! Always abound in the faith, and never leave home without Him!
