The Power of the Cross

How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

Hebrews 9:14

We waste a lot of time and effort trying to win the approval of others. Ultimately, we really want to win God’s approval. Mature, self-aware people eventually come to a place where they realize that they have done wrong in their lives and have fallen short of pleasing God. This often leads to a desire to do good, try harder, and become a better person. If you asked the average person why they think they will go to heaven when they die they would say, “Well, I try to do good.” The bad news is that our best is not nearly good enough.

However, there is good news. Jesus offered the perfect sacrifice, His sinless life, on our behalf to God. This is why Jesus died on the cross 2000 years ago. Jesus took our punishment upon Himself so that we could take on His righteousness before God. When you repent of your sins and believe in Jesus, God sees you as clean, pure, and holy. The only thing that can clean the stain of our sins is the blood of Jesus.

Heavenly Father, I’ve tried to be a good person on my own, but that hasn’t worked for me. I’m tired of running from God and I want a relationship with God. I want to grow closer to God. With Your help, I turn away from my disobedience and sin. I want You to help me to turn my life toward God. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and can forgive my sins. I surrender my life to You and I ask You to save me and lead me from this day for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
