Get to know #yourColletonFirefighter Stephen Bellew on #firefighterfirday. Firefighter-Paramedic Stephen Bellew is assigned to the Station 9 Platoon on “A” shift. Here is more information on Firefighter-Paramedic Bellew:

Stephen entered the first service in 1993 as a volunteer firefighter for Hanahan Fire Department. His lineage is full of public safety servants dating back to the 1900s. Growing up, he knew he would also join the ranks and give back to his community just as his family has done for many generations. Most of his elders served in law enforcement, but his uncle was the one who decided to switch things up a bit and joined the fire department. As part of his high school studies, Stephen signed up for a ride along and was able to spend a day with a Paramedic. He really enjoyed the medical field, and although he was not quite old enough to attend EMT school, he was old enough to volunteer for the fire service. He began taking classes and quickly developed a passion for the fire service. Mount Pleasant Fire Department offered Stephen a job, and after some time with the department, he decided to enroll in EMT school. Having the desire to gain more medical experience after obtaining his EMT, he accepted a part time job at Charleston EMS. Getting his bearings on the medical side and developing a better understanding of the responsibilities his job entailed, he decided to continue his education and enrolled in Paramedic school. Following graduation, he decided to find a fire based EMS department where he could use both of his skill sets. In the fall of 2010, he was offered a Firefighter-Paramedic position at Colleton County Fire-Rescue and has never looked back.

When Stephen is not working, he puts his family first. They enjoy spending time together outdoors. He is an avid hunter, angler, and enjoys preparing fields for planting season.
