Xi Omega Omega Chapter initiates 10 new members

On May 22, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Xi Omega Omega Chapter, initiated 10 new members in Walterboro.

Glotavia Morris delivered a message during the worship service. The membership committee consists of Leila Williams (chairman), Beverly Haynes, Dr. Joyce Davis, Kayla Hasty, Dr. Denise Rhodes, Florence Reed, and Mahalia Buckner. Sylvia Joy Williams is the president of the chapter.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was founded on a mission comprised of five basic tenets that have remained unchanged since the sorority’s inception more than a century ago: to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind.”

Xi Omega Omega Chapter was chartered in 1983 in Walterboro. Founded in 1908, at the historically black Howard University in Washington, D.C., by a group of sixteen Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is the first

intercollegiate historically African American sorority.

The new members initiated in this chapter are as follows:

• Dr. Jacqueline Murdaugh-BA Sociology, USC-Aiken; MA Education and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies, Cambridge College; PhD Organizational Leadership, Columbia International University
