Woman injured after struck by car on Cane Branch Road

A 65-year-old New York woman was critically injured after she was struck by a car while crossing Cane Branch Road at Cracker Barrel at 5:56 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

A Fire-Rescue unit was on Sniders Highway when the accident occurred and was on the scene immediately. The woman was found unconscious in the roadway with multiple traumatic injuries, including a head injury.

Firefighter-paramedics began treating the woman and requested a medical helicopter. She was transported in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter. Additional firefighter-paramedics assisted with her care during the transport. The flight crew flew her to the trauma center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

The Walterboro Police Department is investigating the accident.
