Woman hurt in Red Oak wreck

An adult female received multiple traumatic injuries in a single-vehicle wreck in the 2500 block of Red Oak Road north of Cottageville Sunday June 14 at 1:41 p.m.

The Chevrolet Colorado pickup was traveling north on Red Oak Road when it crossed into the southbound ditch and struck a stump. The vehicle became airborne and landed approximately 100 feet away in a front yard, flipping over at least three times, coming to rest on the passenger side. The female driver was wearing a seatbelt and was trapped in the wreckage.

Firefighter-paramedics entered the damaged vehicle and began treating the woman’s injuries while other crewmembers stabilized the vehicle with cribbing and the winch from a Fire-Rescue vehicle. Crews used rescue tools to remove the roof and safely extricate the woman with full spinal precautions. The Meducare helicopter responded to the scene and landed in a field next to the accident. The patient was transferred directly to the flight crew who flew who her the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital in North Charleston.

A small dog was found uninjured inside the truck. The dog was cared for by bystanders until the extrication was completed, then turned over to family members who arrived at the scene.

The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
