Local authorities are searching for a suspect in a fatal shooting that left a young woman dead at the Rodeway Inn in Walterboro.

Cassady Wiggins, 22, of Walterboro, died at the scene, according to Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey. The shooting occurred on Friday, Oct. 8th at about 10 p.m. Initial 911-emergency calls told authorities that an unconscious woman was seen lying in the motel’s parking lot near a vehicle. Officers from the Walterboro Police Department arrived and found the woman partially slumped in her car, which was located near the end of the motel/building.

“She had no pulse and a gun shot wound,” said Barry McRoy, director of Colleton County Fire-Rescue.

Once firefighter-paramedics were called to the scene through 911 phone calls, those officials then notified the coroner’s office, who responded to the scene and pronounced Wiggins dead.

According to the Walterboro Police Department, officers arrived and found a gray Honda car parked near the dumpsters of the motel. The car was running and the headlights were still on, according to Sgt. Tavara Edwards, with the Walterboro Police Department. “Officers observed a white female slumped over, across the center console and (officers) did call out to her,” said Edwards.

The Walterboro Police Department is still investigating this crime. There are no suspects, as of press deadline on Tuesday.
