An adult woman perished in a single-car wreck in the 3100 block of Can City Road on Friday morning Jan. 1.
The incident was reported at 8:38 a.m. by a passing motorist; however, responders believe the accident occurred several hours earlier.
The 2001 Mercedes was apparently traveling southbound on Can City Road and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle struck a tree and overturned in the woods on the rural road. The car received heavy damage and came to rest on the passenger’s side.
Brittani Solomon, 27, of Walterboro died of multiple traumatic injuries, said Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey. She was trapped in the wreckage. Crews stabilized the car and removed a portion of the roof to free the driver.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
