By CINDY CROSBY Cindyc4@yahoo.com The Colleton County varsity baseball team dropped to 1-13 overall and 1-7 in Region VII-AAAA after losses to Beaufort High School last week (11-1, 2-0). Playing game one on the road against the Eagles on Monday, April 19, Colleton County’s Dakota Dandridge earned the start. Dandridge allowed six earned runs on eight hits, striking out three and issuing four walks. Michael Ortiz, Jackson Bell, Ben Kennedy, Bruce Carpenter, Palmer Thomas, Grayson Cromer, and Warren Hunter each had a hit in the contest. At home in game two played Wednesday April 21, the Cougars held the Eagles to two runs behind the pitching of Gabe Wolfe. Wolfe allowed one earned run on two hits, striking out five and issuing four walks. Ortiz led Colleton County at the plate, going 2-4 on the day. Bell and Poe had a hit each in the game. “This was a hard-fought game by the guys,” said Coach Jermale Paige. “Gabe Wolfe pitched a phenomenal game going eight full innings. Wolfe had no-hitter in seven innings. This was the most successful start of Wolfe’s young career. He is a special southpaw that is going to do great things at Colleton County High School. Our guys swung the bat fairly well against Beaufort’s starter. We just squared balls up directly at their defenders. This young group plays hard and eventually their hard work is going to pay off for them.” Colleton County will play their final two-game Region VII-AAAA series this week against May River High School scheduled for Monday, April 26 and Wednesday, April 28.
