Proverbs 14:34
“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

God has blessed this country far beyond anything we can imagine! We have recently gone through (and are still going through) one of the most horrible downturns in one of the strongest areas of our country’s existence … our economy. However, we have something greater than that. Our country is free because of great men and women, who put their lives on the line. They believed in a “cause” that was bigger than them. A “cause” that was not given to them by the Founding Fathers. A “cause” that was not given to them by the Declaration of Independence or by the Constitution.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. Among these, are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
There is a common thread, woven throughout the fabric of our American history that says… (as it does on every coin and every dollar printed by the U.S. Treasury) …” In God We Trust”!
We do not say that with a lower-case “g” or with some vague or amplified version of this word as a pronoun for whatever self-definition of whom you may say God is. No. He is the author of liberty. He is the divine Creator. He is so holy and so high, that our Founding Fathers recognized that He alone would be able to build this country.
Benjamin Franklin said, “I have lived, sir, a long time and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth — that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?”
Our Founding Fathers knew that they needed God Almighty then, and we need Him now! In my lifetime, we, Americans, have faced a lot of things together. We have felt the fear that would try to overwhelm us. We have felt the attempts of prejudice that would try to divide us. We have been attacked by those who are afraid of the freedom and liberty we enjoy.
We are blessed to have leaders in our county, state and country who give their allegiance, respect and acknowledgment to the Lord God, as they make decisions which affect each and every one of us! We need strong leaders who fear the Lord and keep His Commandments.
We cannot base our success upon how much prosperity we enjoy. Prosperity comes and goes. Economies come and go. Diseases come and go. The future of our country and the souls of men rest not simply in the Oval Office or the State House, or even the County Council Chambers. The future of our country rests in the decisions made in God’s house!
Will the people of God get serious about things that matter for eternity? Will the church, as we know it, continue down a well-worn path of seeking comfort or some emotional experience? We the people must believe and then act upon those beliefs. We must stand up for the liberty and freedom we have been given by those who gave the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf. Let me remind you, they died to give you the freedom to vote against everything they believed!
The truth and the freedom we have been given was bought with the blood of great men and women who had no idea what we would do with their sacrifice.
The next generation needs to know a country that is secure. They need to be given a country that is not over-run by illegal invaders. They need to know a country that is winning in the war against drugs. They need to have the chance to live in a land where people can go to church and worship the God who gave them this liberty! We ought to give them a country that has been preserved by the faithful God of Heaven as He worked in the hearts of men and women to stand, to vote, to sacrifice, and even to die for the freedom we hold so dear!
This Memorial Day, may we remember those who took a stand, and they paid more than any of us have ever paid. They gave their life, so you could vote, “yes” or “no.” They gave their life so you could give away the freedom they died to protect.
What a tremendous gift we have been given, but also a great responsibility as well. Primaries and General Elections are coming up. It is our honor and duty as Americans to respect the liberty we have been given, paid for by blood, and get out and vote for godliness, holiness, and the preservation of freedom. Brave men and women died so you could sleep safe and forget to do your part. It would be morally wrong for us to let the price they paid go by without at least getting out and voting, doing our part, to help protect and preserve the freedom they died to save.
Let us not be so ungrateful. Let us not be so careless with their sacrifice.

Jesus looked beyond His own comfort and into the misery of our sinful lives, and He did something about it! Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and rose again from the dead to offer to me and you the opportunity to become children of God and be forgiven of all our sins.
Will you put your faith in Jesus alone to be your Saviour and Lord?
Let me know if you have trusted Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour.
