What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
Mark 8:36-37
You’ve probably got some kind of plan or goal for your life. We want to raise the kids, finish our education, build wealth, make our bodies healthier, achieve some level of success, have a comfortable life, and prepare for our retirement. We seem to have a goal for everything except our soul. This is the part of you that will live forever, and we neglect the nourishment and maturity of our soul. As a result, while many of us look okay on the outside, our inner person is malnourished, weak, and empty. Have we neglected the most important part of ourselves? I think so.
So how does a person revive and nourish their neglected soul? The first step would be to reconnect with our Creator. We can never be who we’ve been designed to be until we have a relationship with the One who designed us all. This person is Jesus. We reconnect with God by turning away from the disobedience that separates us from God (repenting of our sins) and believing that Jesus is the Son of God who forgives our sins. When we genuinely repent of our sins and believe in Jesus, a spiritual change takes place that affects the core of who we are. We become born-again and are children of God.
A true child of God cannot ignore God. We are drawn to Him. “Deep calls to deep…” (Psalm 42:7). God “has also set eternity in the human heart” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). We yearn for that which is eternal, spiritual, and the author of our lives. We want to know God, and we can know the riches of God through Jesus, His only begotten Son (John 3:16). Isn’t it time you gave your soul some attention?
