Mr. Weston Bowen Stratton, II, known by all as “Nick”, age 62, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday afternoon, July 22, 2021, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

Born November 9, 1958 in Charleston, South Carolina, Nick was the son of the late Weston Bowen Stratton and the late Catherine Gibbs Stratton. He attended Walterboro High School where he mastered the trumpet in the band and later graduated with the Class of 1977. He went on to graduate from Clemson University in 1981 with a Bachelors Degree in Architecture.   He was a member of the Clemson Tiger Band, Clemson Alumni Band and IPTAY.  Nick owned and operated his family businesses including Plumber’s Friend, Lowcountry Kitchen and Bath, and Best Plumbing located in Walterboro. Nick has been a longtime icon and friend in the community, he had served as a volunteer firefighter for ten years with the City of Walterboro Fire Department, also a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Walterboro.   One the greatest parts of his life was his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America.  He was one of the original Scout Masters in Walterboro playing a vital role in the re-establishing of Troup 646.  He held leadership roles close to his heart and trained the future leaders of many troops to follow. His pledge to the community was that he mentored boys into responsible young men.  He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, No. 1988 in Walterboro.  Nick‘s smile will be forever remembered by the countless folks he encountered, helped, and loved.  His family, staff and community were his life and his joy for being with friends, fishing, and good food will never be forgotten. 

Surviving are: his beloved wife of thirty-three years, Mrs. Kathy Benton Stratton; two children, Weston Taylor Stratton, III and his wife Brittney of Walterboro and Sterling Hanna Stratton of Walterboro; and two sisters, Catherine “Kitsy” Stratton of Asheville, North Carolina and Diane S. “Dolly” Gambrell of McClellanville. He is also survived by a large host of extended family as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.   He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret S. West.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Faith Church, Walterboro Campus, 858 Bells Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488; or to, Boy Scouts Troup 646, care of 105 Sidneys Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488. 

Funeral services will be conducted 5 o’clock Monday afternoon, July 26, 2021, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.   The Reverend LaRell Strickland officiating.  The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony until 8 o’clock that evening at the funeral home.
