Whitley Weathers threw a 10-0 shutout in the regular season opener against Barnwell High School on Tuesday March 10 in front of a home crowd. The Lady Cougars scored one run in the first inning, went on to add runs in the second and third inning, then put the game out of reach after scoring three in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Weathers allowed four hits across six innings, striking out eight and issuing no walks in six innings of work. Weathers also helped her own effort at the plate, going 3-3 with two RBI’s and scoring once.

Shandi Brown, Makayla Chisolm and Sydney Howard had multiple hits in the game. Karson Hiott had three stolen bases.

“I am really proud about how the Lady Cougars played this week,” said Coach Tootie Edwards. “The bats were on fire, and the defense was strong.”

The Lady Cougars, anticipating a strong run in region play, were disappointed after learning their season would be on hold through the first of April, at the earliest.

“We have been in a panic all week wondering what the outcome would be,” said Edwards. “It is devastating that some of the season has been postponed, especially after all the hard wok the girls have put in preparing for this season.”
