Weathers strikes out 16 in win over James Island

The Lady Cougars defeated Hilton Head High School 16-1 on Monday, March 22 in an on-the-road game. Weather earned the win in four innings of work, allowing one earned run on two hits, striking out nine. Makayla Chisolm was 3-4 with 5-RBI’s to lead Colleton County at the plate. Weathers was 2-3 with 3-RBI’s and Shandi Brown was 2-4 with an RBI and scored twice. 

Jordan Slocum was 2-2 with 3-RBI’s and scored four runs in the game. Shamorie Overton had a hit. 

Colleton County earned the sweep against Hilton Head in an 18-1 decision on Wednesday, March 24 at home. Weathers allowed one earned run on a single hit, striking out five. Sydney Howard closed the game allowing no runs and striking out one. Weathers was 3-4 at the plate with 3-RBI’s and scored once. Brown, Chisolm, Overton, and Makenzi Pellum had multiple hits in the game. Howard, Mackenzie Seigler, and Lanasia Sanders recorded a hit-a-piece. 

Against Hanahan High School on Friday, March 26, Weathers earned the 3-0 win in the circle. She allowed no earned runs on six hits and struck out seven across seven innings. Weathers also led at the plate, going 2-3 and scoring twice. Brown was also 2-3 on the day. Chisolm was 1-2 with an RBI and scored once. Overton and Seigler were both 1-3 with an RBI. 

In a 9-1 home win over James Island High School on Friday, April 1st, Weathers allowed one earned run on seven hits, striking out 16 across seven innings. Jordan Slocum had a perfect night at the plate, going 4-4 with 3-RBI’s and scoring three times. Brown was also 4-4 with an RBI and scored four times. Howard went 3-4 with 2-RBI’s on the night and Weathers was 2-4 with an RBI. 

Chisolm and Seigler recorded hits in the game. 

The Lady Cougars were set to face Region VII-AAAA opponent Bluffton on Monday, April 5 but the game was postponed by Bluffton due to COVID-19 concerns. As of press time, game two of the series was still planned for Wednesday April 7 (away). Colleton County is scheduled to participate in the Fort Dorchester Tournament April 9-10.
