The waterspout occurred at Edisto Beach near a house located at 902 Palmetto Boulevard, on Saturday July 9 at around 5:30 p.m., damaging a house.

According to Edisto Beach Police Chief Denny Conley, the waterspout came from the water and hit land. The powerful water spout damaged a metal roof of the house, at 902 Palmetto Boulevard. It also blew a transformer and part of the beach lost power for about two hours, he said.

No other damage was caused.

“Palmetto Boulevard was shut down for about two hours,” said Conley.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, nearly two inches of rain was confirmed along Edisto Beach during the July 9-10 weekend.

As a result of the heavy weekend rain, Edisto Beach had a significant amount of standing rain in the “usual locations,” Conley said. These “usual locations” are located along Palmetto Boulevard. By Monday, things were back to normal at the beach with the water drained and the flooding gone, he said.
