The Colleton Prep Warhawks started out slow against Branchville, taking their best shot in the first quarter of last Friday night’s game. With 11 seconds remaining in the first quarter, the Warhawks were behind for the first time all year trailing by a score of 14-7.

The lead was short lived however, as the Warhawks would score 46 unanswered points to defeat Branchville by a score of 53-22. The team would generate 581 yards of total offense while holding the Yellow Jackets to 369 yards.

The Davis brothers, Cole and Caleb, accounted for a combined 386 yards rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. Quarterback Cole Davis would add 101 yards in passing, completing 4 of 8 passes along with a touchdown pass to Caden Crosby. The Warhawks would also add a rushing touchdown from Walker Bryan.

Branchville would score on their opening drive to go up 7-0 with 4:45 remaining in the first quarter. The Warhawks would respond on an 8 play drive that covered 55 yards to make the score 7-7. Branchville would then reclaim the lead with 11 seconds in the 1st quarter thanks to a 75 yard touchdown pass.

CPA would then dominate the 2nd quarter, getting touchdown runs of 51 and 45 yards from Cole Davis. Caleb Davis would add touchdown runs of 1 and 9 yards to make the score 33-14 at the halftime.

The offense would continue to shine after halftime as Cole Davis would rush for a 51 yard touchdown and throw a 22 yard touchdown pass to Caden Crosby, making the score 46-14.

Walker Bryan would close out the scoring with an 8 yard touchdown run with 7:30 left in the game. Branchville would then add a score with 3 minutes left in the game to make the final score 53-22.

“I thought we started out slow, especially tackling in the first quarter. Branchville gave some different looks than what we were expecting and it took us a few series to adjust to what they were doing. I told the kids to be patient and keep their feet under them, and we would win a four quarter game. We are real happy with the win, by the way we responded after falling behind in the first quarter and getting to play a bunch of kids. This was a total team win,” said Coach Greg Langdale.

The Warhawks will now seek win number four as they travel to Hardeeville to play a first year school, Cross, out of Bluffton. Game time is scheduled for 7:00PM.

On Thursday night, the CPA Middle school remained unbeaten as they defeated Andrew Jackson by a score of 20-14.
