Colleton Prep volleyball opened their season by splitting the first two games of the year.

Prior to the season getting started, the Warhawks hosted a pre-season jamboree at the school. The Warhawks managed to win one of three games played during the day.

“I thought our kids got off to a slow start during the day. This was our first test, and was not our best effort,” said Coach Dave Roper. “We viewed this as a learning experience to develop team chemistry and teamwork.”

The first game of the year was against 3-A foe, Palmetto Christian Academy. Despite losing in 3 straight sets, Coach Roper saw some positive play from his team.

“It looked like we started playing together better and really stepped up our game, even though we got beat in 3 sets,” said Roper.

The Warhawks were able to win the game in 4 sets against Calhoun Academy. They won the first set 25-19, lost the second set 24-26, won the third set 25-20, and won the fourth set 25-16.

Roper was pleased with the effort and improvement of the team during the first week of the season.

“I think that if we can continue to improve our play like we did against Palmetto Christian and Calhoun, then I see no reason why we cannot have a successful season. I am really proud of this team as they are starting to play together, and developing a sense of unity with each game played,” stated Roper.

Roper cited the play of Linely Jones and Ava Murray for holding down the defense and Caroline Mock for making herself strong at the net. He also cited Kara Ferguson and Kayla Barnes for demonstrating strong serves during the games.

“ Kylie Roper has done an excellent job setting the ball to our outside hitters Hannah Strickland and Lane Catterton,” Roper noted.
