War Hawks drop opener to Dolphins

The Colleton Prep varsity football team dropped its non-conference season opener to Hilton Head Prep 30-20 Friday Aug. 28 at home.

Hilton Head scored first with 5:30 left on the clock in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. The War Hawks took possession on a long drive that ate up the remainder of the quarter and took the lead 8-7 with 11:56 left in the second quarter. Jacob Breland had several strong carries in the series to put the Hawks in good field position. Drew Murdaugh scored for Colleton Prep and successfully converted a two-point run to make it an 8-7 ballgame.

The Dolphins answered with 4:05 left on the clock in the second quarter to take a 13-8 lead. Cole Davis scored on a quarterback keeper (two-point conversion attempt fails) with :25 seconds left in the third quarter to take a 14-13 lead. Hilton Head Prep then took the lead on a safety 15-14 with 11:30 left in the fourth quarter. Hilton Head scored twice more in the fourth quarter to jump out 30-14. Drew Murdaugh scored with 2:10 left in the game (conversion failed) for a final of 30-20.

Hilton Head’s Carson King ran for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. King had 46 yards rushing and caught four passes for 25 yards. The Dolphin’s quarterback, Harrison Green, threw for 84 yards and a touchdown. Tommy Staffer had 93 yards rushing and recorded seven tackles.
