The Colleton Prep varsity basketball team began its 2020-21 season last week under the direction of first-year head coach Antwan Mitchell. The War Hawks suffered losses to Faith Christian Academy (57-49) and Patrick Henry Academy (90-45).
Against Faith Christian on Monday Nov. 24, an eighth-grade transfer for the War Hawks, Melvin Teal Jr., scored 33 points with 10 rebounds. Cole Davis added 13 points.
In the loss to Patrick Henry on Tuesday Nov. 25 on the road, Teal was the again the leading scorer with 29 points and 10 rebounds.
“We are really a JV team playing on the varsity level,” said Coach Mitchell following the loss to Faith Christian. “However, we will compete at a high level every night we step on the court.”
The War Hawks were scheduled to host Holly Hill Academy Tuesday Dec. 1 and will travel to Calhoun Academy on Friday Dec. 4.
