War Hawk Baseball 2-1 in Region IV-AA

The Colleton Prep varsity baseball team went 1-2 last week, earning an 18-0 win over Hilton Head Christian before dropping a non-region game against Pinewood Prep (13-5) and a conference game against Hilton Head Prep (23-0). The War Hawks are 3-4 overall and 2-1 in Region IV-AA. 

Playing on the road against Hilton Head Christian on Tuesday, March 9th, Cole Gullotti went five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out six. 

Kyle Hooker led Colleton Prep offensively going 3-for-3 at the plate with 5-RBI’s and scoring once. Colton Daniels went 3-4 with 2-RBI’s and scored four runs. Pete Peters, Caden Crosby, Drew Murdaugh, Grayson Mills and Cole Davis all had hits in the game. 

The following evening, Colleton Prep lost the lead and were defeated at the hands of Pinewood Prep. Kyle Hooker led things off on the pitcher’s mound for the War Hawks, surrendering three runs on two hits over four and a third innings, striking out seven. 

Wyland Sheffield, Colton Daniels, and Carter Smoak each contributed in relief for Colleton Prep. 

Colton Daniels went 4-4 with 2-RBI’s and scored three times. Daniels singled in the first, homered in the third, singled in the fifth, and singled in the seventh. Peters, Gullotti and Smoak had hits in the game. 

In the loss to Hilton Head Prep on Friday, March 12, the Dolphins scored eight runs in the first inning and tacked on 11 in the second and four in the third inning to force a run-rule decision. Colton Daniels started for the War Hawks, lasting two-thirds of an inning, allowing four hits and eight runs while striking out two and walking one. Pete Peters and Carter Smoak entered the game in relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings and two-thirds of an inning, respectively.

The War Hawks have a busy week ahead, with four games on tap. 

They were scheduled to host Beaufort Academy on Monday, March 15 and Thomas Heyward on Tuesday, March 16. They will travel to region opponent Hilton Head Prep on Thursday and non-region Branchville High School on Friday.
