On January 19, 2022, the Walterboro Rotary Club made a $3,400.00 donation to Alzheimer's research. The donation was accepted by Rod Funderburk, ambassador for the CART fund. CART, an acronym for Coins for Alzheimer's Research Trust, started in 1996 and encourages Rotarians to voluntarily empty their pockets and purses of change at each weekly meeting. One hundred percent of donated funds goes towards funding cutting edge Alzheimer's research. Rotarians have donated over $10 million dollars over the course of the CART program, which is then distributed in the form of grants to recognized United States institutions for scholarly research.

Funderburk, a past District Governor for the Rotary Club, gave a presentation to the club on the work of District 7770 to raise funds to cure Alzheimer's disease. After the meeting, Dr. Sam Hazel presented Funderburk with a check for $3,400.00 on behalf of the club.
