WALTERBORO, SC - Students and families are invited to attend the Lowcountry LevelUP Summit, to be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Walterboro Wildlife Center on Jefferies Blvd. In addition to food, school supply bags for students, and prize raffles for everyone in attendance, the event will have speakers providing valuable information on nutrition, financial wellness, and civic engagement that will benefit families and the entire community. “I’m so thankful for everyone in and around Walterboro that has blessed me throughout my life, so I’m excited that I’m at a point to be of assistance to others,” Hodges says.

After discussing with friends apparent needs, they saw within the community that raised them, they wanted to create an event that provided kids with the boost needed to start school on a positive note, also equipping their parents with information to help them be better as well. “This time of year, places the focus on the youth as they prepare to return to school, but we also wanted to provide opportunities to our adults to pick up some tools to help them as they lead their families,” Hodges stated.

Additionally, there will also be scholarship opportunities announced for high school students to assist with their college education or trade school programs. “The world is so broad in terms of what kids can achieve in terms of jobs and careers, so we want to be supportive of those endeavors, whether they involve a college degree or a trade certificate that is becoming more and more valuable,” Hodges says.

The event begins at 10 AM and will last until 2 PM. Tickets for students are $10 each, adult tickets are $15 each, and tickets for families (up to 4 people) are $25. Registration can be completed online at lowcountrylevelupsummit.eventbrite.com, or by contacting the event organizer, Isreal Hodges, Jr., at (843)909-8694.

“We are hoping and praying that this event can be the start of something magnificent within our community,” Hodges says. “The purpose of the Lowcountry LevelUP Summit will be to engage, equip and empower our community, so we are excited to take that first step in ultimately realizing this objective.”
