Walterboro Lions holds their November Meeting

The Walterboro Lions Club held its monthly meeting at Dukes Bar B Que on Wednesday, November 13th at 1:00 PM. Bob Pence, Lions Club President opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by prayer.

Amanda Herndon and Michelle McClendon from In His Name-Colleton gave a presentation and took questions about the organization and gave an update on the programs they offer. In His Name assists the homeless of Colleton County with meals, showers, job search, and laundry. The faith-based organization has assisted 554 clients this year and provided over 500 meals. They have opened a thrift store at 603 South Jefferies Boulevard in Walterboro. In addition, they are working with St. Jude Church to provide warming centers when needed during the winter. Herndon gave an update on the Annual Free Christmas Dinner, Saturday, December 14th from 11am until 2pm at 1013 S. Jefferies Blvd.

Lions club members just wrapped up the eye screenings in the Colleton County Public Schools. They group tested 1921 students and referred 265 to be further tested. The group hopes to extent the testing program to other organizations in the community.

The Lions Club sells brooms to support their community efforts, both household and warehouse brooms are available for sale at Hiotts Pharmacy.

The Club is also looking to increase their membership.

The mission of the Lions Club is to empower volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.
