The Walterboro Lions Club held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 9 at 1:00 PM at Dukes Bar B Que. Bob Pence opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by prayer.
The club heard about the upcoming Colleton County Rice Festival activities and concerts. They also touched on past events of the last 50 years of the festival.
The club is reviewing applicationS for their scholarship program and hope to announce the recipients at the June meeting.
The final tally on this year’s student vision screening was 2,437 tested with 301 referrals to have a follow up with an optometrist. The testing is supported by proceeds from the annual pancake supper.
The annual fishing for the blind at the Santee Cooper lakes was success this year and the group is donating $150 dollars to the upcoming Camp Leo program for blind children.
The club also sells brooms to support their mission, they are available to purchase from a member of the Lions Club or at Hiott’s Pharmacy.
The mission of the Lions Club is to empower volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.
