The Walterboro-Colleton County Airport Commission held its monthly meeting at The Lowcountry Regional Airport July at 537 Aviation Way, Walterboro, S.C.

The meeting reviewed the closing of one of the three runways at the airport. In May the commission voted to permanently decommission one of the runways due to reasons of cost for repair, and because the end of this particular runway blocks the opportunity for development. The decommissioning was approved so that development of business and aviation businesses can move into this area of the airport property.

Also discussed was the maintenance and furthering of safety precautions, specifically fire extinguishers. A motion was made, seconded, and unanimously approved for the Airport Manager Bert Duffie to approve appropriate extinguishers for the hangers at the airport. Andy Busbee, engineer and manager of Aviation Design at Michael Baker International (aviation engineering firm to the Commission) introduced a new employee to the firm Ben Malone who also advised regarding the fire extinguishers.

Airport operations were then discussed regarding the fine tuning of communications equipment between different areas of the airport.
