One of the international programs supported by Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity®, Inc. is to observe St. Jude Sunday of Hope during the month of March. This is a program that allows congregations across the country to unite in support of St. Jude. For more than two decades, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with St. Jude in efforts to create impactful change in the lives of children worldwide with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Since 2003, the fraternity has raised more than $3.1 million for the renowned children’s hospital through programs like St. Jude Sunday of Hope and the annual St. Jude Walk, held during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month each September (https://www.stjude.org/get- involved/school-fundraising-ideas/college/greek-organizations/kappa-alpha-psi.html).

Last month Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Walterboro, South Carolina served as the place of worship for the Walterboro Alumni Chapter’s observance of St. Jude Sunday of Hope 2025. Several members of the chapter were in attendance. Arthur L. “Art” Williams, the chapter’s President, shared with the congregation the purpose and history of this momentous fundraising effort. The church and the chapter members generously contributed to this worthy cause with a donation of $880.00. Other officers of the chapter are Anderson Grant, Vice-President; Ahmad Stephens, Secretary; Lakendric Rush, Treasurer; Henry Pinckney, Lieutenant Strategus; Orlando Spiller, Intake Membership Chairman; Herman G. Bright, Publicity/Scholarship Chairman; Dr. Edward Reed, Program Chairman; and Dr. Arthur McClendon, Guide Right Chairman.

The other members of the Walterboro Alumni Chapter are chapter St. Jude Chairman, Central Williams, Lashan Stephens, Joseph Mackey, Lennon Brooker, Marvin Jones, III, Ralph James, Ralph Martino, and Dr. Johnathan Francis. Also attending the St. Jude Sunday of Hope Service were two of the members of the Lowcountry Chapter of the National Silhouettes, an auxiliary of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.: Valencia Mackey and Anna S. Bright. The Reverend Andrew Cooper is the Pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Members, affiliates, and friends from across the country are invited to help Kappa Alpha Psi unite as one to end childhood catastrophic diseases. The fundraising efforts of Kappa Alpha Psi and other partner organizations of the National Pan-Hellenic Council help ensure that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — so they can focus on helping their child live. If anyone individually or any other churches would like to donate to St. Jude’s Hospital via the Walterboro Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, please contact the President, Arthur L. “Art” Williams, artwms@yahoo.com or any other member of the chapter.
