VFW offers scholarships for students

PRESS RELEASE - The Colleton County VFW, in conjunction with the Department of South Carolina and National VFW is offering scholarships for 6-12 grade students in Colleton County.

Two separate essay competitions are offering scholarships: “Patriots Pen” and “Voice of Democracy.”

“Patriots Pen” is open to 6-8th grade students who are enrolled in public, private or homeschool. The top prize for national first place winner is $5,000 scholarship. There are also prizes available on the local and state levels also.

The theme for 2022-2023 is “My Pledge to Our Veterans”.

“Voice of Democracy is open to students in the 9-12th grades who are enrolled in public, private or homeschool. The top prize for first place in the nation is $35,000 scholarship. The winner of the state will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC. There are prizes available on the local and state level also.

The theme for 2022-2023 is “Why is the Veteran Important”.
