VFW highlights a Life Member

Mr. Clint B. Ferrell joined the VFW as a Life Member in Nov 2019. He served as the Sr. Vice Commander at Post 12102 and a member of the Colleton County Veterans Council.

Mr. Ferrell joined the South Carolina Army National Guard in Chester SC in Oct 1983 and went to Fort Benning, GA for both boot camp and infantry training.

Mr. Ferrell joined the United States Navy in April 1986 and went to boot camp in Great Lakes, IL, followed by Groton, Connecticut for Submarine School.

Mr. Ferrell went to sea aboard the USS Batfish SSN 681. After four years he served at the Navy Consolidate Brigg as a member of the Security Units Correction Emergency Response Team (CERT). After three years he once again went to sea on board the USS Seahorse (SSN-669). During that time Mr. Ferrell received Hostile Fire Pay on two separate incidents.

After the Navy Mr. Ferrell started a career in law enforcement with the Summerville Police Department where he served as a K9 handler. He then joined the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office in 1997 where he served as a K9 handler and drug agent. He was promoted to Detective Sergeant and served with the Drug Enforcement Unit until his departure.

In 2006 Mr. Ferrell went to Baghdad, Iraq as a private contractor where he used his experience as a detection dog handler to work with an explosive detection canine to assist in the detection of explosive devices.

Mr. Ferrell is married to his 9th grade high school sweetheart, Christy Ferrell. They were married after high school in 1985. Mrs. Ferrell is also a retired Deputy Sheriff from the Berkeley County Sheriff Office. Mr. and Mrs. Ferrell have three children and seven grandchildren.
