PRESS RELEASE. USC Salkehatchie has awarded 138 associate degrees at a commencement ceremony held on the Salkehatchie Commons at the Allendale campus on April 29th.

In addition, 29 bachelor’s degrees were presented through the USC Palmetto College and in partnership with other USC campuses across the state. The 145 graduates represented nine state and included 12 high-school students.

Dr. Sarah Miller from Walterboro was recognized as the 2022 USC Salkehatchie Outstanding Professor and Jacob Horn was recognized as the 2022 USC Salkehatchie Outstanding Student.

Additionally, Dr. Susan Elkins, Chancellor of Palmetto College, awarded Morgan Johnson with the President’s Scholarship, a $5,000 award given to students who exhibit academic excellence and community service.

The ceremony included remarks from Interim Dean John Catalano and USC Interim President Harris Pastides, who congratulated the graduates on their successes and challenged them to set high goals.

In his remarks, President Pastides provided the Class of 2022 a blueprint for success: set specific goals, and work with excellence to achieve them; be a critical and independent thinker; develop resilience; keep a positive attitude; and take good care of yourself.

“Set goals high, allow yourself to dream and give yourself credit not only when you achieve them, but for getting close to a goal that was set with a high bar,” Pastides said. “You are the heart of USC Salkehatchie – and the heart of the University of South Carolina. Because of you, I know that not only is Carolina’s future bright, but our nations’ is as well!”
