A Colleton man is in custody for the murder of a woman found shot to death in a local motel parking lot.

Charles Anthony Allen, Jr., 25, of Round O, is charged with the murder of Cassady Wiggins. Allen was arrested by federal agents and the Walterboro Police Department on Oct. 14th. He was found in a motel in St. George in nearby Dorchester County: U.S. Marshalls located Allen in the motel and then notified local officers.

Allen is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

“This arrest is the result of an extensive investigation led by Sgt. Fisk,” said Sgt. Tavara Edwards, spokeswoman for the Walterboro Police Department.

Wiggins, 22, of Walterboro, was found shot to death on Oct. 8th in the parking lot of the Rhodeway Inn, located along Ladson Road in Walterboro. She died at the crime scene, according to Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey.

Walterboro police officers were originally called to the scene for the reports of a woman seen slumped over inside her car. Officers then discovered that Wiggins was dead inside her car from a gunshot wound. According to information originally provided by the Walterboro Police Department, officers arrived and found a gray Honda car parked near the dumpsters of the motel. The car was running and the headlights were still on, according to Edwards.

The investigation into her homicide has been ongoing since Oct. 8th, and local authorities reached out to the U.S. Marshall Agency for assistance.
