The Colleton County Sheriff's Office has two new deputies that recently joined the department's road patrol.

Deputy James Kenneth McManus Rorem and Deputy Seth Harris have joined the sheriff's office.

Rorem is originally from Ottumwa, Iowa, and is now a Walterboro resident. Rorem, a former MP in the U.S. Army comes to the Colleton County Sheriff's Office from the nearby Berkeley County Sheriff's Office. He made the move to Colleton to be closer to family, he said.

"I wanted to pursue this career after I left the military police in the Army," he said.

Harris is also a newly-hired deputy with the sheriff's office.

Harris is a native of Walterboro who says he decided to join the Colleton County Sheriff's Office after serving three years with the Hampton Police Department.

"I want to serve my home community," he said.

The Colleton County Sheriff's Office is still seeking road patrol deputies and officers in other departments within the agency, including the sheriff's office IT department, the county's 911-emergency dispatch center and at the Colleton County Detention Center.

To try to find qualified candidates, the local Sheriff's Office is hosting eight upcoming job fairs: on Tuesday, February 15 at Wal-Mart; on Tuesday, February 23 at SC WORKS; on Wednesday, March 16 at the Colleton County High School Career Expo; and again at Wal-Mart on April 19, June 21, August 23, October 11 and December 6.
