Two men were arrested after investigators discovered stolen goods at a local residence.

On April 3, Colleton County deputies responded to a burglary report on Cannon Road. After meeting with the victim, deputies found numerous items missing, including three 4-horsepower boat motors, two trailers, a 2004 Kaufman car carrier, a rusted red trailer that had two flat tires on the right side, a Kubota tractor with a green mower and a bush hog.

On April 6, law enforcement received a tip on the stolen goods, leading investigators to Fleming Road. Investigators observed in plain view equipment matching the description of the stolen items.

As a result, Talon Barnes, 25, and Brian Smoak, 34, were placed under arrest.

Barnes is charged with receiving stolen goods greater than $2,000 but less than $10,000.

Smoak is charged with grand larceny, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and driving under suspension.

Besides the initial charges stated, Smoak had an additional warrant from the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office for breach of trust with fraudulent intent less than $2,000.
