The Gregory Kinsey Memorial Executive Board recently chose two students to receive the GKM Scholarship: Alaysia Stephens and Dorian Gant.

Every year, the board sponsors scholarships in memory of Colleton’s County’s beloved coach Gregory Kinsey, who passed away in 2020.

Stephens and Gant are both scholars and are Class of 2022 graduates of Colleton County High School.

Stephens has chosen to major in History at Lander University in Greenwood. She said her ambition is to become a historian.

Gant will major in Engineering at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.

The board raises funds all year to support the scholarships. Students have requirements they must meet in order to become eligible for the scholarship. The criteria include:

1. Must be a graduating senior who attends Colleton County High School;

2. Must have a minimum 2.5 on a 4.0 grade point average scale;

3. Demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities and the community;

5. Plans to attend a 2-year or 4-year college/institution;

7. Have three letters of recommendation;

8. Submit a written essay;

9. The recipient must provide an official acceptance letter from the college or university immediately prior receiving the award.

In addition to the scholarships, the GKM Executive Board will be launching the “Stay-In-The-Game Project.” The project starts in August of this year and partners the scholarship board with Colleton County DSS to provide school supplies for children.
