A truck caught fire while the driver was getting gas.

The incident occurred at about 5 a.m. on April 7th at the Circle C Truck Stop, located at 11109 August Highway near Walterboro. Firefighters were first notified of the incident, saying the truck was “fully involved” with flames while sitting at the gas pump.

“Engine 26 arrived to find the well involved pickup truck parked next to the fuel pumps with fire damaging the canopy,” said Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy.

According to McRoy, Firefighter-Paramedics used a one and three-fourths handline to try to extinguish the flames; however, the “ruptured plastic fuel tank proved to be a little challenging to extinguish,” said McRoy.

Firefighting crews used a special foam to extinguish the fire.

The pickup truck was destroyed. “The pump, canopy and the front of the store received fire, heat and smoke damage,” he said.

No one was injured in the incident.
