Town of Edisto Beach Monthly Highlights

Posted

June was Golf Cart Safety Month, and the Town of Edisto Beach would like to draw residents and visitors’ attention to a golf cart law that went into effect this year. Please note a new South Carolina golf cart law was signed by the Governor in May. While the Town is still working on specifics regarding this new law, the most important item people must abide by is the seat belt requirement for children under the age of 12 years old. At the July monthly meeting, Town Council will consider the first reading of an ordinance which includes the specifics of the new law Section 59-2-90.

The Edisto Beach Fire Department received the 2024 Fire Safe Community Designation. Chief Denney Conley attended the 2025 Fire-Rescue Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach to accept the certificate. To earn Community Designation, the EBFD completed courses to increase the department’s Community Risk Reduction efforts, documented opportunities for public education, and worked with partners to address risks.

During the June 12 Town Council meeting the Town gave the Starfish Awards to deserving recipients

•Robbie and Hollace Savage, Edisto Essentials, for their generous support in donating the use of two LSVs during the April 25 EOC/Town Hall groundbreaking ceremony.

•Bryan Herring, who coaxed a wayward spider monkey into his arms so that the monkey could be reunited with its owners.

•George Kostell for his service as a long- standing member of the Planning Commission and for working tirelessly to create a better Edisto Beach for all. Paul Otte, Utilities Department, nominated by resident Dr. Bill Gallman for his polite, professional, and efficient manner while dealing with a pipe rupture on May 18.

The Town of Edisto Beach also honored its Public Work employees for their hard work and dedication to making the town look as good as it possibly can. Julian “Hoss” Meggett, Tray Simmons, and Clayton Branham keep Edisto Beach looking its best.

Edisto Beach also welcomed a Girl Scout Troop from Walterboro where they taught the young ladies about beach patrol responsibility, beach rules, and how to keep the beach clean and safe for everyone, residents and visitors alike. They also learned about the beach environment and what makes it so special.
