Jane Dantzler Thompson, of Gilbert, S.C., passed away on May 4, 2023 at the age of 83. Jane was the daughter of the late Herman Lee and Eleanor Hanberry Dantzler of Walterboro.  She is survived by her husband, Charles Thompson Sr., and her children, Lee Anne Thompson, Charles Thompson Jr., and Jennifer Thompson as well as her brother, Herman Lee Dantzler (Linda), and her sister, Mary Anne Dantzler. Jane graduated from Walterboro High School in 1957 and was well-known among her classmates. She afterwards attended Brevard College and graduated from Palmer College in 1958. In 1958, she met the love of her life, Citadel cadet Charles Thompson and they married in 1960. Charles made a career as an officer in the U.S. Army, eventually retiring to Lexington, South Carolina in 1981. They later moved to nearby Gilbert. Jane was known for her kindly and adventurous spirit and love of family, gardening, movies, music, and literature. She had a passion for singing in church and community choirs that throughout her life sent her on tour across the world. She adored her grandchildren, Elizabeth Fager (Matt), Caitlin Sansone (Michael), Emma Studemeyer (Ryan), Will Sumner, and Holland Thompson-Chastain. She was like a second mother to them all. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Molly Rowan Fager, John Charles Sansone, and Callum Ryan Studemeyer. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Shiloh Methodist Church in Gilbert, S.C., 1000 Spring Hill Rd. at 2:00PM.
