“All Aboard the Polar Express!” was heard by dozens of children who came to the Colleton County Arts Council’s annual Polar Express event, held on Saturday, December 11, at 11:00 a.m.

The train’s conductor read the Polar Express Christmas story to the children, who also received bell necklaces and a gold train ticket. Santa made a surprise visit and the little participants were able to make ornaments, eat Christmas cookies, take a train ride, have pictures made with Santa, take home stockings and choose books to keep, all while wearing their favorite PJ’s!

Children also visited Santa’s workshop and saw a miniature Polar Express train, sponsored by LEGO artist and engineer Andrew Heape, who also had his intricate LEGO buildings on display. Colleton Preparatory Academy students were on hand to aid the children as they painted ornaments, and to man the cookie, candy cane and cotton candy table, as well as hand out stockings for kids to color.

Colleton County Arts Council board members Samantha Herndon, Blue Benton, Barbara Carelock, Tina Mole, Heather Larson, Becki Crosby and April Willis hosted the event, as well as Scott Grooms who was driving the train.

The Colleton County Arts Council has classes available for children and adults which can be found on their Facebook page.
