I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.
Proverbs 8:17
We live in a world where most people assume that upon death, they will arrive in Heaven. They may be intentional about their education, careers, relationships, finances, health, and possessions, but often their soul goes neglected. We generously estimate ourselves as above average and worthy of God’s blessing.
The Bible teaches that we will receive in eternity what we have pursued in this short earthly life. If we have lived like there is no God here, we should not expect to be welcomed by Him there. If we have neglected a relationship with God on this earth, we should not be surprised that in eternity, we have no relationship with God. Friend, God will not welcome strangers into heaven, but only those who have repented of their sins and believed upon Jesus, the Son of God.
This text tells us who will be accepted and received by God. God loves those who have a genuine desire for Him. If you reject God, rest assured that God will reject you. If your thoughts never turn to God, why would you expect Him to be mindful of you? This text is not about being perfect, but about what our heart loves. God wants to be desired by us. He wants us to seek Him out. God wants us to pursue Him. You can pursue God by reading the Bible, praying, and going to church regularly.
It’s not too late for you to seek God. Start now, today. Repent of your sin. Believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died and rose again. Ask Jesus to forgive you. Begin to read the Bible, pray, and attend church. The text ends with the promise: “…those who seek me find me.”
