Today, read Leviticus 13-15. Plagues, contamination, and discharges. Sounds rather disgusting!
These things are ceremonial laws rather than moral or civil laws. They rendered the sufferer ceremonially unclean and required cleansing and sacrifice before the sufferer could worship and go to the tabernacle or church. In those days, people couldn’t just close their eyes and pray. They were too imperfect; the priest had to make a blood sacrifice for them before God would hear them.
But what about people with acne? What about people with skin conditions like psoriasis? What about women with constant gynecological problems? What about men with prostrate trouble? The laws didn’t just apply to people with leprosy, so this meant that some people were considered “unclean” forever and could not worship in public or go to the tabernacle. How could they worship a perfect God? The fact is, they couldn’t.
What a tragic life many people had to live. It must have been so difficult to live with such imperfections and feel so far away from the love of God. But God is so pure and perfect, and though He loves us, He cannot be near anything unclean. So what could be done for those people who wanted to be a part of God and worship in His house?
The Lord God Almighty could send Jesus, who would be part of God, but part of us as well. He would be a bridge between God and man. A “one time” sacrifice so that we wouldn’t have to sacrifice animals to cleanse our impurities. He became the perfect sacrifice.
Aren’t you glad that the Lord Jesus has taken care of all that for us. We are no longer bound by Old Testament ceremonial law. See Galatians 3:15-25.
In your journal, make three columns. In the first column, make a list of all of the health issues and sins you have. In the middle column, write “Jesus”. In the last column, write “God”.
Next draw a line from everything in column one, to “Jesus”. Then draw a line from “Jesus” to “God”.
That is how it works. Jesus is the Son of God, and He is God. He takes away our impurities and makes us pure before God. Isn’t that wonderful?
Pray: Jehovah Jireh, the Lord our Provider, thank You for providing the perfect Sacrifice to set us free from the ceremonial laws of the Old Testament. Thank You that I no longer have to worry about disease, contamination, or even natural biological discharges as things that make me unacceptable and in need of personal sacrifice. The Lord Jesus took care of that when He gave Himself for me. He IS my purity, my righteousness, and the reason that I can come to You with confidence, so that I might receive Your mercy and find grace in Your Presence. Hebrews 4:16.
