The Teen Summer Reading Program at the Colleton County Memorial Library will be an eight-week workshop series on June 1–July 26.
Each week, Teen Librarian Lashonda Linder will post a detailed video on the library’s YouTube Channel (Colleton County Memorial Library). In addition to the workshop, teens will have the opportunity to receive weekly prizes by answering questions based on the workshops’ videos and reading or listening to a certain number of books.
At the end of the Manga/Comic Book Workshop (separately from the weekly prizes) first, second, and third place prize winners will be given to the three hardest-working teens with the best projects.
Teens can record the books they read or listen to, as well as take their video quizzes, on a free app called “ READsquared.” Parents, guardians or teens will need to download the program and create an account to start logging their summer reading activities. The only requirement to sign up is a library card. Teens who sign up will gain 10 points toward their weekly reading goal for prizes.
“Teens who participate in our summer reading workshop series will learn the basics they need in order to create a manga/comic book,” Linder said. “Those who complete this workshop will be able to start virtual webtoon comic or expand on their work before illustrating it. The work that they do can also be put in their portfolio for college.”
