The annual Future Farmers of America Spring plant sale is scheduled for this Saturday, April 9th.

The plant sale will be held at Thunderbolt Career and Technology Center from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features flowers and vegetables. Prices include $10 for a 10-inch hanging basket; $15 for a 12-inch hanging basket; $5 for 6-inch pots; $2 for a 6-pack of flowers; and $2 for 4.5-inch square pots.

Dozens of different types of flowers will be for sale, including butterfly bushes, elephant ears, vinca, marigolds, petunias, and geraniums. Vegetables for sale include tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, watermelons and cantaloupes.

Proceeds from the sale benefit field trips and events for the TCTC Future Farmers of America students, who use greenhouses to help grow the plants for sale this weekend.

“Agriculture is important to everyone, regardless if you want to work in the field of agriculture or not. Agriculture allows us to have food to eat, clothes to wear and materials to build structures. There are many occupations within the agriculture industry,” said Robin Lutton, who has been a teacher for 15 years at TCTC. She helps to operate the plant sale for TCTC students, in support of the FFA.

TCTC is located at 1069 Thunderbolt Road in Walterboro. For more information on the plant sale, Colleton residents can contact Lutton at glutton@colleton.k12.sc.us.
