Sweat Street crash with an entrapped driver

On Monday, Nov 14 at approximately 4:46 p.m. Fire-Rescue responded with Walterboro Fire department to a single-vehicle crash on Sweat Street east of North Jefferies Blvd.

A Ford pickup truck traveling at a high-rate speed collided with a guard rail on Sweat Street, went off of the road, over-corrected, and flipped over several times before landing on its roof in the wooded swamp.

The male occupant was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-paramedics stabilized the vehicle with struts, then used Holmatro hydraulic rescue tools to gain access to the driver to extricate him from the overturned truck. He was immobilized on a backboard, then transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to Colleton Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic on Sweat St was blocked for over an hour. The Walterboro Police Department is investigating the accident.
