Suspect arrested after chase starting near Smoaks

Tuesday night July 14 about 10:30 p.m., the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible burglary in progress near the 7000 block of Augusta Highway near Smoaks. The call resulted in a chase through several counties and one arrest.

Deputies arriving saw a white male subject leaving the residence in a dark-colored SUV and attempted a traffic stop. But the subject fled. The pursuit began in Smoaks and ended in Allendale County with the arrest of Michael Donovan White.

Several agencies assisted the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office in the pursuit and apprehension.

The vehicle and license plate, reported stolen from outside agencies, were recovered by the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.

White is charged with failure to stop for blue light, two counts of receiving stolen goods and driving under suspension, third offense.
