Fire crews cared for two young children who were on scene during a shooting last week in Walterboro.

On June 8, a 26-year-old Walterboro suspect was reportedly arguing with his stepfather inside a Grant Street house when the suspect shot the victim.

The victim received non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

While officers were on scene investigating the shooting, firefighters who had also responded helped to entertain two young children, who were inside the house when the shooting occurred.

“The children were not injured, and crews showed them the fire trucks and then wear firefighting gear while Walterboro police officers contacted other family members to take custody of the children,” said Barry McRoy, chief of Colleton County Fire-Rescue.

The suspect has been charged for shooting his stepfather. He was arrested at the scene and taken to the Colleton County Detention Center in Walterboro.
