A Colleton County man was killed at a Walterboro nightclub in an incident that seriously injured a local woman.
Dexter Lynah, 23, of Walterboro, died because of his receiving gunshot wounds, according to Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey.
Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were called to the Sure Shots Pool Hall at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, July 30th. According to information provided by the sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shalane Tindal, the 911 caller said a man had been shot. When officers arrived at the nightclub, they found the victim suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds,” she said.
Firefighter paramedics transported the victim to a Charleston-area hospital for his injuries. However, he died at the hospital from his wounds.
“This remains an ongoing investigation, limiting the release of additional details,” said Tindal.
As of the press deadline, there have been no arrests for this murder.
Original reports of the shooting said two people were injured in the shooting. According to Barry McRoy, chief of Colleton County Fire-Rescue, 911 callers stated that one person was shot and another was injured. “Firefighter-paramedics found a male patient in critical condition who suffered gunshot wounds, inside the establishment … a female patient was outside the building with a broken leg,” said McRoy. Firefighter paramedics gave the gunshot victim IV fluids and whole blood and then transported him to the trauma center at Trident Medical Center.
“A medical helicopter was not immediately available,” said McRoy.
The female patient was transported to Trident Medical Center. Her condition is unknown.
The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident.
“The Colleton Sheriff’s Office is committed to our citizen’s safety and urges anyone with information regarding this incident to call CRIMESTOPPERS or 843-549-2211,” said Tindal.
Sure Shots is located at 4198 Sniders Highway, near Walterboro.
