Ten students were involved in the massive student brawl that occurred at Colleton County Middle School last week. Four of those 10 students are facing assault charges.

The May 3rd incident required multiple deputies from the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office to respond. According to information provided by the sheriff’s office, deputies assist the school's staff and the School Resource Officers, who were trying to resolve several student fights happening at the same time.

No weapons were involved in that incident, and no teachers or school staff members were injured in the brawl, according to officials.

On May 4th, officials with the Colleton County School District confirmed that the students had been identified.

On Monday, May 9th, school district Spokesman Sean Gruber said a total of 10 students were involved in that brawl. According to Gruber, these students will be disciplined in accordance with the district’s policies, and will be given to students based on the “level of infraction,” he said.

Sheriff’s office Spokesman Shalane Lowes Tindal confirmed the district handled all disciplinary measures, and that no criminal charges were filed.

However, the sheriff’s office says that a petition has been filed with the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to charge the four students who initiated the fight with assault and battery, third-degree.
