One of the sweetest treats of the spring season is about to be ready, as Breland Strawberry Farms is preparing to open for business, possibly by the end of this week.

A Colleton County tradition, Breland’s Strawberry Farms are known for supplying locals with the savory strawberries, both through retail shops and by picking your own strawberries at the farm.

This year, owner Jerry Breland says he hopes the strawberries will be ready for the public later this week, although warmer weather is needed to confirm that timeline.

“We need some warmer nights, a bit of spring weather to help make them ready,” he said.

The U-Pick strawberry field isn’t quite ready, with no certain time frame yet on when it will open for the public. There are also no prices yet on the cost of strawberries coming from this field.

However, Breland says the retail location at Snyders will likely have the strawberries first, with an anticipated opening date of later this week. One gallon will cost $16.

The Walterboro retail location of the Breland Hills Farm will also likely soon, with an anticipated opening date of early next week.
