State vaccination rates near 30 percent

Approximately 29 percent of all South Carolina residents are now fully vaccinated, but Colleton County’s vaccination rate is inching forward slowly. According to information provided by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), nearly 41 percent of all Palmetto State residents have had at least one vaccine of a two-vaccine process. This information was accurate as of Tuesday, April 27th. Broken down by age, the majority of those receiving the vaccine in South Carolina so far are women. In the 16 to 24-year-old age category, 51,271 women have been vaccinated, compared to 37,008 men. In the 25 to 34-year-old age category, 81,657 women are vaccinated, compared to 59,206 men. In the 35 to 44-year-old category, 104,667 women are vaccinated whereas 75,799 men are vaccinated. In the 45 to 54-year-old age category, 128,921 women are vaccinated, compared to 94,987 men. For the 55 to 64-year-old group, 195,008 women are vaccinated versus 147,355 men. For those South Carolina residents who are 65 years old or older, there are 388,871 women vaccinated versus 296,959 men who are vaccinated. Locally, women are also outweighing the men, in terms of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. In Colleton County, about 10,706 residents have received at least one vaccine. The majority of residents vaccinated are women. Broken down by race in Colleton County, the majority of those in Colleton County who have received the vaccine are white residents, followed by black residents and then “other,” according to S.C. DHEC statistics. As part of the state’s vaccine rollout, any resident who is age 16 or older can now receive the COVID-19 vaccine. This is the final phase of the South Carolina COVID-19 vaccine protocol.
