A residence on Calloh Drive reported the fast-moving woods fire on Saturday, March 1st. The seven-acre fire endangered eight homes. Dry conditions and high winds quickly spread the fire through heavy woods toward homes located on nearby Cottonwood Lane. Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived and requested additional assistance along with the Forestry Commission. Crews and apparatus positioned to protect homes on Cottonwood Lane. The Forestry Commission responded with two brush trucks and a tractor and was able to cut fire lines around the fire and contain it before it damaged any homes. This was one of many woods fires in the County over the weekend. The Forestry Commission placed a Statewide burning ban in place Saturday evening.
