This weeks spotlight is on Dr. Krista Massey. Dr. Massey is originally from Pennsylvania and moved to South Carolina after Chiropractic School. Massey explains, “I’ve been there for almost eight years, married and have a two-year-old son. I’ve been part of Walterboro; we bought a house here almost two years ago. So even though I haven’t lived in Walterboro for that full eight years, I consider myself a Walterboro resident because I spent most of my time here working.”
Dr. Massey is also the new Executive Director of the Colleton County Chamber of Commerce. She explains, “Colleton Chiropractic has always been a member of the chamber. I was consistent with going to the chamber events, and I always wanted to be on some type of committee revolving around the chamber to really help the town and the businesses in the town. When the position became available, I thought really heavily about whether or not I should apply. I’m very happy that I can come after Stuart McAdoo and help to make the community better through the Chamber.”
Massey talks about the Chambers purpose, “The chamber is here for the businesses within Colleton County as a platform for networking. The other benefit of having a membership with the Chamber is connecting businesses looking to hire with promotion through our Facebook posts or website. This really helps to get the presence of your business exposure. People will call the chamber looking for help as to where should I go when planning an event such as a wedding. So we’re also a resource for referrals for those type of inquiries.”
The chamber also works closely with the Edisto Chamber to enhance business in all of Colleton County. We are not just downtown Walterboro. We’re Colleton County, so that is Cottageville, Stokes, Lodge, and all of those other businesses that are outside of the city limits that are still part of Colleton County.”
When asked what she likes to do outside of work Massey says, “Besides chasing after my two year old, I love crafts and I love organizing. If I had to choose another job outside of being a chiropractor and being the executive director, I would become a professional organizer, or because I just love the feeling of things being nice and tidy. I also I love helping people get organized. In a way, part of my job as the executive director is helping to organize the chamber and the functions of the chamber.
Finally Massey says, “I’m excited to be in this position to really help the community grow. I want to see the chamber grow, back to the chamber it was long ago. Ultimately, when the businesses thrive, then the community thrives, and we can get the community back to being that vibrant community that it once was.”
